The Asia Pacific Alliance of
Universities of the Third Age


The Alliance is an informal group of country representatives, meeting weekly by teleconference. It is currently run by a 'steering group' of eleven members.

The following aims for the Asia Pacific Alliance have been fully discussed and adopted.

Rhonda Weston is Chairman and Steering Group Convenor of the Asia Pacific Alliance, President of U3A in Toowoomba Inc. (1550 members) and immediate Past President of U3A Network Queensland Inc, and immediate Past Chair of U3A Alliance Australia.

Worldwide promotion and publicity for U3A International Conferences

Support for all emerging local and national U3A groups in the Asia Pacific Region
Encouragement of formation of rural U3A groups

Elsie Mutton is Vice-President of U3A Network Victoria Inc. Australia and Course Administrator of U3A Nunawading.

She also chaired the Organising Committee of the International Conference held in Melbourne in October 2013.

All our Steering Group meetings take place online, using the UKs Open University FLASHmeeting site.

The Alliance is a member of the worldwide 'Pass It On Network'.

Tom Holloway is Secretary-General of WorldU3A -- an international Internet and web service, based in Hyderabad, India.

He is the International Advisor for the Indian Society of U3As and also the Steering Group webmonger.

The example telemeeting (left) is from 2013. Taking part were Australia (Brisbane and Melbourne), Singapore, India (Uttar Pradesh and Telangana) and South Africa.

The Singapore 2011 conference took place on 8th and 9th of August 2011 . Day 2 pictures here.

The Melbourne 2013 conference took place on October 14th/15th at Melbourne Town Hall.

The Kathmandu 2014 conference took place on October 18th/19th 2014 at the Mirage Lords Inn, Battisputali Road, Kathmandu, Nepal.

Thomas Kuan is Secretary General, East Asia Forum for Adult Education (EAFAE), and was Conference Organiser for the 2011 Asia Pacific U3A Conference in Singapore.

Goh Kim Seng (Kim) is the President of U3A Singapore - He holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Psychology from London University and M.Soc.Sc. in Applied Sociology from the National University of Singapore.

  Aliya Mukhametzhanova is from Kazakhstan and after a secondment to UK is now forming the new U3A in Astana, Kazakhstan's capital city.
