Ageing Nepal and Ageing Nepal Switzerland have been running ARF program since 2016. ARF supports yearly three students to do their master and M.Phil level thesis on ageing issues as requirement for their degree. So far, it has provided fellowships to 12 students. Mr. Lumin Kumar Shrestha, Founder of Manchuka Memorial Fund has been partially supporting to conduct Monthly Discussion Forum on Ageing- the only common platform for sharing ageing issues in Nepal since 2017. This year also he handed over a sum of money to continue the forum.

The forum is bringing the issues of older people in the forefront of national and political discourse and also influencing government and non-government organizations representatives for better policies and programmes for wellbeing of older people.

The forum is a regular program of Ageing Nepal with support from Manchuka Memorial Fund and National Senior Citizens Fund.

More than 150 members of Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of "Delhi (an umbrella body of 18 Lakbs senior citizens) participated in Dharna at Jantar Mantar organised by Pension Parishad and Help Age India on 23-01-2020 to demand universal pension of Rs. 5,000/- per month to senior citizens of Delhi. Mr. Mathew Cherian, CEO, HelpAge India was also present along with other staff. J.R.Gupta, Chairperson, addressed the audience & supported the demand in the larger interest of senior citizens of Delhi; followed by light refreshments. The full edition can be seen here>>>

Senior Citizens Council of Delhi organised visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan, Mughal Garden & National War Memorial on 15-02-2020 in which its 51 members participated from 12 noon to 7:30 pm in a bus provided by the Council. Rashtrapati Bhavan is a H shaped building, covering an area of 5 acres on a 330 acre estate. The Mughal Gardens are situated at the back of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, incorporate both Mughal and English landscaping styles and feature a great variety of flowers. The Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens are open to the public in February every year.The National War Memorial at India Gate represents the gratitude of a nation to its Armed Forces.

Prof Francois Vellas participated in meetings in Jinan and Yantai, Shandong Province to plan the next World Senior Tourism Congress 2020. This third congress will bring together U3As from the six continents to discuss on Seniors Study Tour dedicated to Culture and Education for life.

Many delegations from Europe and the Americas are expected to attend.

A specific workshop will be organised with UNESCO and the Institute of Responsible Tourism on a date in 2020 to be decided. This will take place in Yantai, China.

I am happy to observe that, apart from several exciting things happening in the area of senior citizens welfare (including U3A), they are also getting reported for wider communication. JR Gupta’s report from Delhi says that the next Supreme Court hearing in “Ashwin Kumar PIL” will be in last week of next month. That, coupled with central government Budget release, will make the next issue even more exciting.
