Dermott Wynne, Hackney U3A writes....
1. Hackney U3A is in North London just a few miles from Central London. Hackney is a very diverse and exciting place to live and there is lots going on. Many artists live and work in Hackney. In our somewhat deprived inner city borough, we have been able to kindly use free LB Hackney Library premises to keep our costs down.

2. Hackney U3A has over 100 members. We officially became a U3A only in Autumn 2006. There is a web site, www.hackneyu3a.co.uk, and enquiries can be emailed to hackneyu3a@gmail.com. Presently, we produce a bimonthly Newsletter to keep members informed of Group, etc. developments.

3. We have about 15 Interest Groups, all listed on the web site. Some of these Groups meet weekly, others once or twice monthly. New groups are springing up regularly. We hold a morning general meeting every 3rd Tuesday of the month at Homerton Library to which there is usually an invited speaker.

4. Our U3A gives members an opportunity to meet people and to get involved in any of the current groups. Each group has a leader but, in the best tradition of the U3A movement, all group members are welcome to contribute. Anyone can attend a group meeting on a trial basis and many continue attending after becoming an U3A member.

5. Our message is that a U3A is a wonderful idea. It provides an opportunity to follow up many interests that we, as 2nd Agers, could not fit in during our working life. Essentially, it can help all in our community to remain active in mind and body in our 3rd Age.
