SOUTH PACIFIC: On his first day visit to South Pacific, AIUTA President Professor François Vellas met representatives from the University of New Caledonia in Noumea looking to start new U3A joining AIUTA. They discuss with Associate Professor Marc Menou on possible cooperation with regional U3As such Australia and Japan linked to New Caledonia with direct non stop flights to Tokyo, Osaka, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Pendant le premier jour de sa visite dans les îles du Pacifique Sud, le Professeur Vellas, Président de l'AIUTA, a rencontré les représentants de l'Université de Nouvelle Calédonie à Nouméa qui souhaitent débuter la mise ne place d'une nouvelle université du troisième age. Les discussions avec M. Marc Menou Maitre de Conférence ont porté notamment sur les liens possibles avec l'Australie et le Japon dont les villes de Osaka, Tokyo, Brisbane, Melbourne et Sydney sont reliées par des vols directs à la Nouvelle Calédonie.

VANUATU: Prof François Vellas AIUTA President had a meeting with Honorable Jean Pierre NIRUA, Minister of Education Republic of Vanuatu and Ministry Director General of University of Third Age in Vanautu islands last wednesday 12th january. The Minister is considering to join AIUTA seeking technical assitance to join U3As worldwide movement. Also the discussion focused on permanent training on education for all the life to staff ministry. The Minister is looking to visit AIUTA Secretariat this year 2017.

Le Professeur François Vellas Président de l'AIUTA Président a rencontré M. Le Ministre de l'Education Nationale de la République du Vanuatu avec son Directeur Général à Port Vila le mercredi 12 janvier. Les discussions ont porté sur l'implantation d'une université du troisième age au Vanuatu et sur l'apport de l'AIUTA pour la formation des cadres du ministère sur l'éducation tout au long de la vie. Il est prévu que le Ministre visite le secrétariat de l'AIUTA en 2017

ALGARVE: AIUTA Executive board met the mayor of Faro on the visit to Algarve U3A. M. Rogério Conceição Bacalhau Coelho, Mayor of Faro congratulates AIUTA President and delegates and proposed to host a new AIUTA International Conference in 2019 in cooperation with U3A Algarve. Prof Carlos Santos, (front right) AIUTA deputy secretary general said that it would be a great opportunity to enhance U3A's and Education for life, not only in Portugal and Brazil, but also in lusophone speaking countries such as Guinéa, Angola, Capo Verde, Sao Tome and Mozambique.

Rogério Conceição Bacalhau Coelho a proposé que la ville de Faro avec l'Université du Trsoisième Age de l'Algarve accueillent une prochaine conférence internationale de l'AIUTA à Faro en 2019. Le professeur Carlos Santos, Secrétaire Général Adjoint de l'AIUTA a souligné que ce serait une très bonne opportunité pour développer les Universités du Trosième Age dans les pays lusophones avec le Portugal et le Brésil et en direction de la Guinée, du Cap Vert, de Sao Tomé, de l'Angola et du Mozambique

Prof François VELLAS, AIUTA President and Minister Armoogum Parsuramen visited India U3A Bangalore on their first day visit to India on Friday January 20th. They participate to a workshop and discussed on participation to AIUTA programs with Secretary General Madan Baldota and Chairman of The University of Third Age in Bangalore. AIUTA delegation visited the Institute of Technology Bangalore and Director Rao Maanay linked with India U3A Bangalore and discussed on next future cooperation

Le Senior Citizens Council of India and Confederation of Senior Citizens Association of Delhi ont reçu les délégués de l'AIUTA Prof François Vellas, et le President fondateur de l'Université du Troisième Age de Maurice Armoogon Parsuramen dans le cadre du National Interaction Session sur "Widening the International Network of U3A". J.R. Gupta a présidé cette importante conférence devant un grand auditoire de séniors venant le la capitale Delhi en centrant les débats sur la contribution de l'Inde au actions de l'AIUTA. Le président Gupta a proposé que l'Inde reçoive une conférence de l'AIUTA en l'associant aux très importants festivals culturels qui ont lieu en Inde chaque année

DJIBOUTI: Samedi 28 janvier, le Président de l'AIUTA lors de sa visite à Djibouti a rencontré Mohamed Wais, Directeur de cabinet de la Présidence de la République et Osman Abdi Mohamed, Directeur de l'ONDT. Les discussions ont porté sur le tourisme des séniors et le développement des Universités du Troisième Age. Une conférence internationale, associant les Universités du Troisième Age et le tourisme des séniors sera organisée à Djibouti dans le cadre du programme de la route d e la soie initié par la Chine et dont Djibouti représente une des étapes principales.

China already has the world’s largest aging population, with around five workers for each retiree. By the end of 2015, more than 222 million Chinese were age 60 or older — 16 percent of the country’s total population. By 2020, that number is expected to reach 243 million. In Shanghai more than 30 percent of the population are currently 60 or above.

With the legal retirement age is set at 50 for women (55 for female civil servants) and 60 for men, and an overall life expectancy of 76.3 years, how to address the needs of this growing demographic has become an increasingly difficult problem to solve.
