Osaka Conference: Maria Chester, AIUTA General Secretary, is pleased to announce that the October joint AIUTA/AP Alliance International Conference in Osaka, Japan, will be chaired by Rhonda Weston, Chairperson of the U3A Asia Pacific Alliance (on the right).

Governing Board: On thursday 12th May, the President of Reims University opened officialy AIUTA Reims GB with Prof Patrick Demouy, Director U3A Reims. A large number of international delegates attended this opening at the headquarters Reims University. Two keynote speaches were delivered with Mr Xin Li, China AIUTA Vice President and President of the Chinese U3A Association and Prof Todor Tanev, former Education Minister and Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bulgaria. A special greetings has been organised for Paule Vidal after a long participation at AIUTA GB since many years.

Jeudi 12 mai à 15h le Président de l'Université de Reims a inauguré officiellement le Congrès de l'AIUTA de Reims avec le Professeur Patrick Demouy, Directeur de l'UTL Reims en présence de nombreuses délégations internationales. Lors de la première session du CA deux communications ont été présentées par le 1er Vice Président de l'AIUTA M. Xim LI , Président de l'Association Chinoise des U3A et par le Professeur Todor Tanev, Ancien Ministre de l'Education de Bulgarie et Conseiller du Premier Ministre. Madame Paule Vidal a reçu un hommage spécial de l'ensemble du Conseil après de nombreuses années au service de l'AIUTA.

BRAZIL: Prof Aline Alvarenga, representative Prof Fabio Hauagge do Prato, Director U3A UDC Brasil participate to AIUTA GB and International Conference and deliver a talk on Brasilian history of U3A's. She discuss with Prof François Vellas AIUTA President on the proposal to organise an international AIUTA workshop next september in U3A UDC Foz Iguaçu

La Professeur Aline Alvarenga, représentante de Fabio Huaagge do Prato directeur de l'U3A UDC Foz Iguaçu au Brésil a présenté un rapport à la conférence de Reims sur les U3A au Brésil. Aline a discuté avec le Professeur Vellas de l'organisation d'un séminaire au mois de septembre à Foz d'Iguaçu.

SENEGAL: Le Sénégal a participé à la conférence internationale de Reims avec une forte délégation conduite par le Président Camara. Le Président de l'AIUTA Professeur François Vellas a remercié les membres de la délégation qui confirme le rôle de leader du Sénégal dans le développement des Universités du Troisième Age en Afrique de l'Ouest.

IX International Summer Senior University, Mallorca: “Healthy lifestyles: A Mediterranean experience in Mallorca” is a one-week lifelong learning programme in a ludic and Mediterranean context, aimed at students older than 50 years. This programme is taught in English and oriented towards intercultural understanding among people from different European countries. It takes place in September (4th to 10th) in a mild warm and off-peak season.

This year’s edition will deal with interdisciplinary issues related to healthy lifestyles, such as nutrition, physical exercise and positive thinking. The programme can be found here >>>

Computer Groups: This Financial Times report (and video) takes a critical look at IBMs progress so far with their much-heralded 'Watson' artificial intelligence system, now being marketed under the general name of 'IBM Analytics'.

A longer and more detailed discussion of artificial intelligence can be found in the Wikipedia article on 'Technological singularity'. However this comprehensive overview draws on the opinions of so many experts in the field that your editor was unable to complete and digest the matter in one sitting.

U3A UK Food Co-ops: Do you have one for your local group? More and more communities are setting one up so they can get good food at an affordable price and have more control over where their food comes from. You can check on your nearest (there are so many) or even better you can start one of your own for your regular meetings.

History Groups: Back by popular demand, Ancient History Encyclopedia will once again share news, on a monthly basis, about select museum exhibitions and events of interest to our global audience via AHetc. Exhibitions are arranged in alphabetical order by geographical location and region within this post: the Americas, United Kingdom, Europe/Middle East, and East Asia/Oceania. For the very first time, Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi (which includes U3A) organized an interaction session with Sh Alok Kumar Verma, Commissioner of Delhi Police in the presence of more than 500 senior citizens across Delhi at Deer Park on 10/04/2016 . Other Police Officers namely S/Shri P.Kamraj , Special Commissioner Law and Order, R.S.Krishniya, Joint CP (Southern Range), Ishwar Singh, D.C.P.South ,Sanjay Bhatia , Additional DCP (South), S.P.Tyagi A.C.P and Inspector V.N.Jha , S.H.O. were also present. During interaction session individual complaints were also heard himself by the Commissioner regarding abuses/harassment at the hands of their own children and assured to take legal action as may be deemed fit on receipt of complaints. He also ordered that Beat Constables would meet senior citizens weekly and SHO Level meetings could be held in every month regularly at the place identified by the Confederation in each district.
