The International Federation on Ageing is proud to be co-hosting, alongside the Heritage Foundation, the 12th International Federation on Ageing Global Conference on Ageing. The event is scheduled to be held from June 10-13, 2014 in the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, India.

French Groups: Bernard Mouzer of U3A Poole, teamed up with a Parisian friend to develop the free Froggyspeak website, for French Improvers - and Beginners. "It's being used enthusiastically by U3A members and groups in UK, Australia and New Zealand. It is proving very useful to French Language group leaders dealing with the usual mix of French language knowledge and ability.

With Patrick's multi-lingual interest in pronunciation and beautiful native French speaking voice, the website provides students with an easy means to rapidly increase their French speaking ability - and all with lots of humour".

Are you interested in UK family history? Will you be in England on September 13th? If you have answered YES to both these questions then why not join us at our 2014 conference in Buxton, Derbyshire.

Four speakers have been booked for the day: Dr Nick Barratt (The National Archives), Prof Rebecca Probert (Warwick University), John Titford and Joy Bratherton (Authors). Delegates will also have the opportunity to meet with others interested in family history and support the various ‘trade’ stands. The conference will be held once again in The Dome, Buxton, which is now part of the University of Derby.

This event has been organised by a network of U3A members in the UK Peak District and surrounding area. The cost for the day, which includes the talks, refreshments, lunch and car parking is, as last year, £20. Introducing Margaret Manning and Sixty and Me Margaret Manning is the founder of Sixty and Me, a global community designed for bold and fearless women who are excited to be 60 years old.

For example, here is a wonderful interview with John Medina, brain scientist and best-selling author of Brain Rules. He and Margaret discuss myths about the brain and rules that are especially applicable to people over 60. They talk about the specific things we can do to keep our aging brain energized and healthy.

From Geoff Steventon, President of U3A Croydon, Melbourne, this idea for recruiting new members:
For the last 3 years our Council in conjunction with the largest local shopping centre have held a one day “Senior’s Expo.” We have participated on each occasion having a booth and providing some of the entertainment with our line dancers and singing group. We have had significant interest and hand out lots of brochures and for those who show real interest membership forms as well. It's good because it's local and the target age group are in the shopping centre during the week. I highly recommend it.
