The number of the networks dealing with the issues in active aging is growing. The website Active Aging Networks assists in providing the links. Knowing about the networks and having an opportunity of contacting the "contact person" will contribute to our knowledge.

Active aging is a concept which evokes the idea of longer activity, with a higher retirement age and working practices adapted to the age of the employee. It also extends to the social engagement of the elderly in the collectivity.

AAN - Active Aging Networks is a component of the eRegion Portal supporting the communication (interlinking) among various networks bringing together the organizations and individuals sharing interest in eInclusion in Active Aging. It is encouraging partner engagement, promote news and events, meet and exchange ideas with peers, and look for potential partners on joint innovative projects in an eRegion.

Social taboos on girl's education before 1960's led to a high illiteracy rate among the 60+ population in Nepal of today. By now, these old people are completely dependent on their families in all respect, which makes them easy victims of abuse and violence even by their own family members.

In a 8 month long daily course, ageingnepal.org empowers 30 elderlies with basic skills of reading, writing and provide skills for the use of common electronic gadgets like mobile phones, household appliances and TV remote control. After completing the course, most of them are able to read signs and names on the street or small texts in the newspaper, make a signature, and use a phone on their own.

CommonAge is the Commonwealth Association for the Ageing. From Australia and Antigua to Vanuatu and Zambia, through our growing networks we are sharing ideas, creating connections, and combating ageism across the 53 countries of the Commonwealth. At the All-Africa Conference on the 25th March, 2019, in Durban, South Africa, a very happy and motivated group gathered for the inaugural meeting of the CommonAge, Africa Chapter.

The theme of the meeting was "Connecting and Collaborating". In the true spirit of the occasion there was some singing and dancing, in which the delegates enthusiastically participated! This was a small beginning with the potential of expanding as the message from this Chapter is spread, which will create more opportunities for Senior Citizens to meet and greet.

Pass It On Network's co-founder, Jan Hively, PhD, will address the United Nations NGO Committee on Ageing on May 2 in New York City about the extraordinary variety of lifelong learning programs being developed collaboratively via the Internet through grassroots networks such as Pass It On. She will speak for global expansion of free Internet access and support as a human right for all - so that older people are not left behind.

Jan's presentation will reinforce the statement that Pass It On submitted for the 10th session of the UN's Open Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA) in New York 15-28 April entitled Lifelong Learning: Education for the Best and Worst of Times. See the 2-page pdf submission>>>
