 Book
and Reading Groups: The Online
Books Page at University of Pennsylvania lists more than two million
free books online. Many of them are available in the form of scanned page
images maintained by the HathiTrust,
which began in 2008 as a collaboration of the universities of the Committee
on Institutional Cooperation and the University of California system to
establish a repository to archive and share their digitized collections.
The initial focus of the partnership has been on preserving and providing access to digitized book and journal content from the partner library collections. This includes both in copyright and public domain materials digitized by Google, the Internet Archive, and Microsoft, as well as through in-house initiatives. |

 In
the UK installing
solar PV scams are targeting the retired. You may be one of the half a million or so Brits that has a solar PV system installed on your home and you are hopefully enjoying lots of free electricity. In many cases, when solar PV is correctly installed, you should be generating quite a decent return – because you can use the electricity you produce in the home and you earn money from the Government’s feed-in tariff (FiT) scheme. If you hold money with the banks and building societies you may only be earning a measly 1% on your investment. Solar PV on the other hand guarantees you an income for 20 years and all these payments are index linked and adjusted for inflation. Coupled with the expected electricity saved an average solar PV system can yield anywhere between 6-8% pa, which is much more favourable than holding money in a banking deposit. But Beware! Marketing companies and unscrupulous door-to-door salesmen have taken these benefits and exaggerated them to such a point that they are exploiting vulnerable consumers – particularly the elderly and retired.  Request for 'twinning' arrangement: This is a newly-formed U3A group under the chairmanship of Bahadur Linga Reddy, centre front on the left of the Hon Secretary, Tom Holloway. We are actively seeking to establish a "twinning arrangement" with a UK group, for the purpose of exchanging photographs and emails, and in time an exchange of visits between the two groups. LEBANON:
Prof François Vellas, President of AIUTA, recently visited
Byblos (Lebanon) for a meeting to set up a new U3A in Byblos on the initiative
of the American University of Technology. This new U3A will join AIUTA.
BULGARIA:
Mr Georgi Stankov, on behalf of the Minister of Education of Bulgaria
participated to the Lublin Conference. He deliver a speech to the AIUTA
Governing Members on the new policy in Bulgaria to set up a development
of Universities of Third Age in the Country.
MOZAMBIQUE: Eduardo Chiziane from University Eduardo Modale
Maputo Mozambique participate for the fisrt time in AIUTA event. He delivered
a speech to the Governing Board Members in Lublin last september 17th
on new developement for U3A in his country 
Malgorzata
and Izabella organised a trip visiting a traditional house from Poland
and a musical dinner at the closing of AIUTA GB and International Conference
hosted by Lublin University of the Third Age
UKRAINE:
Prof Artur HORBOVYY from University of Livv in Ukraine came with a delegation
to meet Prof François Vellas President of AIUTA and GB AIUTA members
at Lublin GB and International Conference. 
Current
Affairs Groups: This UK government-funded study is following the lives
of people in 40,000 households and providing valuable evidence about 21st
century life in the UK. Understanding Society data and research is used
by a range of audiences. Primarily, it is used to produce research to
inform, influence and check the success of social, economic and health
policy and practice in the UK and abroad.
