U3A Alliance Australia is the national face of the U3A movement in Australia, bringing together the State and Territory networks of U3A groups throughout the country.

U3A (University of the Third Age) began in Australia in 1984, in Melbourne, and spread rapidly to other parts of Australia. U3As were established as autonomous groups, with their own administration and curriculum according to the needs and interests of each group.

The Chair and Secretariat of U3AAA rotates through its membership. The current Chair is Peter Alcock - seen left - a retired geologist and President of the U3A Western Australia Network.

China has more than 70,000 government-sponsored groups and over 8 million enrolled students, providing much the same facilities as the worldwide U3A movement. The fees are minimal, and the courses very popular.

Three members of ISU3A South Zone, - all of Vasavinagar, Secunderabad, organised poor feeding in Gandhi Hospital. Caregivers and attendants of patients, medical and hospital staff and others - nearly 250 persons took free dinner on 14th August 2019 offered under the banner of ISU3A South Zone.

This is a new U3A group in Hyderabad. They are all women writers. They are home makers who are fighting for womens empowerment in the society.

They help house-bound women how to write short stories about the role of women in the present society. They visit the homes of women who are alone to spend time with them and educate and encourage them.

Under the title of "Sharing Inspiring Learning" over four hundred active volunteers from more than two hundred and fifty U3As met in Nottingham recently for the thirty-sixtieth annual conference and AGM to celebrate the continuing success of the UK U3A Movement. The thirty different workshop topics available over the three days reflected an even balance between learning in U3As and valued support for local groups. The new development plan focuses on these two aspects plus growing the U3A Movement, which currently attracts around 3.6% of the Third Age population, and plans to raise our profile, including a new National U3A Day on 3rd June 2020.

These four hundred ambassadors have returned home to spread their enthusiasm to the 400,000 members who will be joined by many more over the next year. We are already looking forward to our fortieth anniversary in 2022. You can learn more here>>>
